What is solar power?
Solar power is the use of solar panels that convert sunlight into electricity. Solar energy is limitless, there is no cost to use. This is a clean, reliable energy source that brings many uses. Solar power is being used for lighting, operating water heaters, cooking...

Structure of the solar power system
- Solar panels: The main component in a solar cell is pure silicon, which is responsible for collecting and converting solar energy into electricity.
- Inverter: Inverter is used to convert the DC power of the battery to AC power for use in electrical equipment.
- Solar charging: Responsible for ensuring the charging of energy from the solar cell to the battery system.
- Battery storage system: Because solar power is not continuously produced due to fixed lighting time, the batteries are then used to store electricity. When the grid power is lost or the solar power system does not produce electricity, these storage batteries will supply the consumed loads from the grid system.
Solar power systems
1. On Grid Solar Power
On Grid solar power helps to save maximum electricity costs, lowest installation costs because no storage system is used.
2. Off Grid Independent Solar Power
Solar panels convert solar radiation into direct current (DC). Then the DC current will be charged into the storage system (battery) through the charge controller. Finally, the Iverter will convert the DC current into AC current for electrical equipment.
Off Grid solar power is suitable for places where there is no electricity from the grid, intermittent power, frequent power outages.
How to use solar power during a power outage
The way for you to still have electricity during a power outage is to install a stand-alone solar system or install an energy storage method for a grid-tied solar system.
1. For grid-tied solar power system
So, grid-tied solar power when there is a power outage will only work for the system that has a battery reserve or is paired with a generator.
Solutions to use solar power connected to the grid when the power goes out
- Grid-connected solar power with backup battery:
This way you have a backup source to keep your electricity usage uninterrupted. The battery will provide mains power during a power outage. However, with this method, the battery investment cost is quite expensive and the battery life is not high. In addition, the backup battery is large in size and takes up a lot of space.
- Solar power connected to the grid connected to a generator
With this method, it is possible to supply power to many devices operating in the event of a power outage. Using a generator will be less expensive, but it has the disadvantage that it needs to be refueled continuously, causing high noise. When there is a power failure, it does not provide power immediately, but has to wait a few minutes to start up.
2 - For stand-alone solar power system
The installation of solar panels will ensure that electricity can still be used in the event of a power failure because the panels generate an independent energy source from the national grid. Solar panels generate electricity, but you need a place to store that electricity so you can use it when you need it. Without storage, any energy the panels produced would be lost.
Standalone solar requires enough batteries to ensure you have enough backup power during a power outage. This often makes it much more expensive than grid-tied solar systems.
