Details of Powerwall 2.0 – Tesla's premium storage product

Compared to the first version, Powerwall 2.0 is a really powerful upgrade, not only in features but also in design.

One of the three pillars that make up Tesla's unified and sustainable energy ecosystem is the Powerwall, a battery that stores energy for the home. As rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries, Powerwall will store electricity generated from solar panels for later use or resell to the grid during off-peak times.

Not only competing in terms of features, Powerwall also stands out from other competitors thanks to its eye-catching and elegant appearance. Therefore, the appearance of this battery block in every home is more like a decoration than an industrial product. With a price of $ 3,000 for the 6.4 kWh version, from the time of launch until the first half of 2016, Tesla received 38,000 orders for this product.

To further develop this pillar product line, Tesla has promised an upgraded version this year. However, instead of just small improvements, Tesla drastically changed this entire product, not only in terms of features but also in style.

While the first Powerwall version did not have an inverter and required users to buy it separately for installation, Powerwall 2.0 has a built-in power adapter. Not only that, the second version of this battery block is also doubled by Tesla's ability to store and provide electricity. Powerwall 2.0 can store up to 13.5 kWh and provide power with a capacity of 5 kWh, which can even be increased to 7 kWh at peak. Meanwhile, the price is only nearly double compared to before, 5,500 USD.

Not only that, the new battery is also upgraded in design. Powerwall 2.0 is more square and flatter than the first generation. It weighs 269 pounds (about 122 kg) and is 6.1 inches thick.

Besides products for household solar power systems, Tesla also has Powerpack products, batteries that store electricity for larger infrastructure such as a business, even a city. The first Powerpack version was introduced in 2015, which can store up to 100 kWh. Mr. Musk said at the time that 160 million Powerpack products would be enough to power the entire United States.
